to share files with my mates and family i installed nextcloud (https://nextcloud.com/). easy to install with the webinstaller: https://nextcloud.com/install/#instructions-server
to save essential files on external harddrive i mounted
/dev/sdc1 on /var/www/html/nextcloud/data type ext4 (rw,relatime)
